MARTHA GAWICK
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Martha Gawick (Gawiuk), who passed away after a brief illness on April 2, 2026, at the age of 93.
Left to cherish her memory are her three beloved children, Brian, Donald, and Sister Bohdana.
She was blessed with five grandchildren, Christopher, Katherine, Ryan, Kristina, and Sara; and four precious great-grandchildren, Alison, Claire, Bruce, and Adelaide. Also mourning her passing are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in Canada, the United States, and Ukraine.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Bill; and her siblings, Michael, Slowko, Dennis, Boris, Victor, Leona, Olecia, and Nestor.
Martha was a devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, where she sang in the parish church choir. She also was a member of the Millennium Choir where she had the opportunity to appear in many concerts and travel to Rome, where she sang the Divine Liturgy with Pope John Paul II in 1988.
She was an active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League, serving as president at the branch, regional, and archeparchial levels. Martha also taught Ukrainian school at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish for 10 years and worked for the newspaper Ukrainian Catholic News. In addition, she was a member of the Ukrainian Women's Council, Winnipeg Branch.
Family was always central to Martha's life. She cherished visits to Ukraine, Kuala Lumpur, Caracas, Long Island, Phoenix, Houston, Dallas, Sonoma, and Sugarloaf. She loved to knit, and every child and grandchild wore a sweater she made with care and love.
Martha lived in the Windsor Park home she and her husband Bill purchased in 1957, remaining there until the end of her life. This was made possible through the watchful care and support of dear friends, Shirley Drul and Val Goertzen. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for their kindness and dedication in Martha's final years.
A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced.
